SEO and Social Media Matter

March 6th, 2010 admin No comments

SEO and Social Media Matter for Press Coverage.

1. Do something that’s different – Simply do something that makes you stand out: something that gets people talking. If it creates enough buzz, the media coverage will likely follow.

2. Look for niche publications – the more niche the publication, the more likely they probably are to cover you.
3. Personalize your message – When you’re writing an email to a publication to talk about your business, for example, personalize the message for the specific person you’re contacting, so they know it’s not just a manufactured piece that you’re sending all over the web. Journalists like exclusivity.

4. Find multiple contacts – If you can find more than one contact for a particular publication, it may be wise to send your story pitch to them. This will increase the potential visibility among the publication’s staff.

5. Provide plenty of details – When sending such a pitch, it’s a good idea to include as many details about the product/story as possible. The more details available, the less research is required, and time is more valuable than ever, especially for a journalist.

When businesses think about search and social media, a great deal of the time, they are thinking about traffic, customer engagement, and brand awareness. While these are all good things to consider, there may be more to that last one that you have spent much time thinking about.

Brand awareness goes beyond just having a random customer find your site in a set of search results or through a link from their Facebook news feed. Have you considered how channels like search and social media are used by media outlets and journalists? The fact of the matter is that journalists and bloggers alike utilize both to a great extent while covering their beats.

For that matter, Google’s real-time search can help for the same reason, and most journalists and bloggers frequently use Google to search for what they’re looking for. If what they’re looking for happens to be related to a newsy topic, they just might see Google’s real-time results literally before anything else. If that topic happens to be related to something you’re talking about, you just might end up in those results too. Google is also indexing updates from Facebook Pages here now, by the way.

The point is, if you are looking for increased media coverage, there are ways to increase your chances of getting in front of the right people, and it is certainly not limited to real-time search. Sometimes journalists/bloggers will simply tap their contacts within their social networks (or email of course) to find sources. This is as good a reason as any to engage in social media on a regular basis and network with lots of relevant people.

DOJ Approves MSFT-Yahoo Deal

February 21st, 2010 admin No comments

Both U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission Approves MSFT-Yahoo Deal.

Microsoft (Nasdaq ‘MSFT’) and Yahoo! (Nasdaq ‘YHOO’) announced today that they have received clearance for their search agreement, without restrictions, from both the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission, and will now turn their attention to beginning the process of implementing the deal.

The companies will begin the transition of algorithmic search and have set a goal of completing that effort in at least the United States by the end of 2010. The companies also hope to make significant progress transitioning U.S. advertisers and publishers prior to the 2010 holiday season, but may wait until 2011 if they determine that the transition will be more effective after the holiday season. All global customers and partners are expected to be transitioned by early 2012.

It’s time to starting up your Live.com SEO campaign to keep your revenue intact.

Typosquatting earn Google $497m

February 21st, 2010 admin No comments

Google’s Annual Revenue From Typosquatting At $497m.

Most people regard typos (Typo squatting) as nuisances, just inconsequential mistakes that cause them to lose a second of time hitting the backspace key.  But for Google, typos may equal big business, as Benjamin Edelman and Tyler Moore have estimated that they make the search engine giant $497 million per year.

Google LogoEdelman and Moore, coauthored a paper titled “Measuring Typosquatting Perpetrators and Funders.”  In a blog post summarizing it, they presented several sets of statistics and wrote, “According to our analysis, 57% of typo sites include Google pay-per-click ads.”

Then they made a rather more interesting comment regarding the effect of Google’s connection: “Combining our observations with financial reports and others’ estimates, we conclude that Google’s revenue from typo-squatting on the top 100,000 sites is $497 million per year.”

Also, Google’s pretty much the only search engine they point a finger at, since not nearly as many ads from Yahoo and Microsoft appear on typosquatting sites.

Google Launches Social Search Experiment

January 30th, 2010 admin No comments

Google Launches Social Search Experiment.

The Social Search Experiment feature that Marissa Mayer announced last week is becoming available today for everyone to try.  Google Social Search promises to help users “find more relevant public content from your broader social circle.”

The premise is simple: people value their acquaintances’ content more than that of random strangers.  So Google Social Search brings content from your social circle to the forefront, perhaps showing a friend’s or coworker’s take on a restaurant rather than (or in addition to) whatever the local newspaper reviewer had to say.

On the Official Google Blog, Maureen Heymans and Murali Viswanathan explained, “The way we do it is by building a social circle of your friends and contacts using the connections linked from your public Google profile, such as the people you’re following on Twitter or FriendFeed. . . .  If you use Gmail, we’ll also include your chat buddies and contacts in your friends, family, and coworkers groups.  And if you use Google Reader, we’ll include some websites from your subscriptions as part of your social search results.

Appearing in social search results means:

1. Make sure you have all of your important links on your Google Profile.
2. Make as many connections as possible.
3. Encourage customers to follow you via social networks.
4. Participate in social media so people will engage with you.
5. Encourage sharing of content (there are plenty available social media buttons)
6. Include social network info on business cards/signage, etc.
7. Include social network info in your online advertising
8. There are probably many more worthwhile tips (if you have any, share them in the comments).

invest on domain names

December 10th, 2009 admin No comments

In previous post about Improve conversion rate mission, i put domain name in the top of top work.

Recent studies show that internet users view keyword domains as an authoritative source of information on that topic. In addition, Google’s algorithm naturally ranks non-brand specific keyword domains higher in organic search listings and improves the relevancy factor for paid search, resulting in a higher average position, helping companies reduce surplus pay-per-click ad-spend. Further improving CTR potential, Google highlights domains with the keyword term within them. A recent study shows that ads featuring a generic domain name with an exact match to the product performed significantly better than identical ads featuring an alternative generic improving conversions from as much as 105% to 15%, depending on the relevancy of search to domain.

And now, the question is which domain name?

Where to buy safe and cheap?

I can not give you the right answer, but right now i have an advise “Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket“.

Added: If you buy expired domains then you may get risk if you put Google Adsense on or pack it to Sedo.

Google Adsense outage

September 26th, 2009 admin Comments off

Today Google Adsense hits a short outage about a half hour from 3:30 to 4:00 GMT.

I can access Gmail at that time but no way to check Google Adsense stat for a while. It seems that September will be the worst month for Google services. Gmail outage at the early of Sept, then Gmail Contact outage last week and now the Google Adsense. Should we reduce the use of Googlepage and Youtube to save the Big?
